From our Perth base we deliver tiling perth across Perth, Scone, Bridge of Earn, Methven, Stanley, Luncarty, Bankfoot, Auchterarder, Crieff and Blairgowrie — plus the wider Perth & Kinross area. Typical travel time from our Talisker Place office is under 30 minutes, so site visits and snagging are quick to arrange.
Marshall & Co provides specialist tiling across Perth, Dundee and the wider Perthshire region. Whether you need full bathroom and kitchen tiling on a renovation, a single splashback installation, replacement of cracked or loose tiles, or precision tiling on porcelain, natural stone or large-format slabs, our tilers deliver a finish you'd expect from a high-end bathroom showroom.
Tiling is one of the most visible trades in any renovation. Bad tiling is impossible to hide — uneven joints, lippage between tiles, poor cuts at edges and corners, rough grout finishing and visible adhesive smears all advertise themselves every time you walk into the room. Good tiling is the opposite — flat, level, perfectly cut, beautifully grouted, and ages well.
Our tilers are time-served specialists, not general builders dabbling in tiling. They use the right adhesives for the substrate (rapid-set, flexible, stone-specific), the right grout for the joint width, the right primers for the substrate, and the right tools for the format (large-format porcelain needs different cutting kit than mosaic).
This service forms part of our wider work as an expert carpenters in Perth, giving homeowners a single trusted team for every stage of their project.

Tiling looks simple — stick tiles to wall, grout, done. In reality it's one of the trickiest trades to get right consistently. Substrates vary (plasterboard, sand-and-cement render, tile-backer board, old plaster, concrete) and each needs different prep and different adhesive. Tile types vary (ceramic, porcelain, natural stone, glass) and each needs different cutting tools and different fixing products. Joint widths matter — too tight and the tiles can't accommodate building movement; too wide and the result looks crude.
The quality difference between a £180/m² tiling job and a £80/m² tiling job is often invisible until you look closely — but the difference is huge. Premium tiling has perfectly consistent grout joint widths (achieved with proper spacers, not eyeballing), zero lippage between adjacent tiles (achieved with levelling clip systems on large-format porcelain), perfect cuts at edges and corners (mitred or with proper trim), and crisp, clean grout finishing.
We tile to that premium standard as our default. There's no point installing £80/m² porcelain on top of £30/m² tiling — the bad work undermines the good materials.
The most common tiling mistake we get called to fix is missing tile-backer board in wet areas. Plasterboard isn't designed to take direct tile in shower walls — it should always have a tile-backer board (Hardibacker, Wedi, Marmox) installed first. Without it, water vapour eventually penetrates the grout, swells the plasterboard and the tiles delaminate.
The second most common is undersize joints on porcelain. Modern rectified porcelain still needs a 2–3mm grout joint to accommodate movement. Many DIY and budget installs use 1mm joints to make the tiles look continuous — and then the tiles crack at corners within months as the building moves.
The third is silicone in the wrong place. Silicone (not grout) belongs at every change of plane — wall-to-wall, wall-to-floor, wall-to-bath, wall-to-tray. Grout in those locations cracks within months. We use sanitary silicone in matching colours.
The fourth is poor adhesive coverage. Spot-bedding tiles (adhesive in dollops, not full coverage) leaves voids behind the tile that crack under pressure and trap moisture. We use back-buttering plus full notched-trowel coverage on every tile.
Tile installation costs in Perth vary by tile type and substrate. As a guide for installation only (excluding the cost of the tiles): standard ceramic wall tiling costs £45–£65 per m²; porcelain wall tiling costs £55–£80 per m²; large-format porcelain (600mm+) costs £75–£110 per m²; natural stone wall tiling costs £80–£130 per m²; ceramic floor tiling costs £55–£75 per m²; porcelain floor tiling costs £65–£95 per m²; mosaic tiling costs £130–£200 per m².
Add prep work: tile-backer board installation £35–£55 per m²; substrate priming £8–£15 per m²; floor levelling compound £8–£15 per m².
Tile replacement costs £40–£100 per tile depending on size, location and grout matching. Full grout refresh on a typical bathroom costs £400–£800.
