Marshall & Co designs and installs bespoke outdoor kitchens across Perth, Dundee and the wider Perthshire region. From a simple built-in BBQ with side worktops and storage to a fully equipped outdoor kitchen with pizza oven, refrigeration, sink and bar seating, we deliver outdoor cooking spaces engineered for Scottish weather and built to last.
Outdoor kitchens have grown enormously in popularity since 2020 — partly driven by the increase in garden entertaining, partly by the availability of high-quality weather-rated outdoor cooking equipment from brands like Napoleon, Kamado Joe, Ooni, Big Green Egg and Weber. A well-designed outdoor kitchen extends the usable garden season from May to October and transforms how a family uses its outdoor space.
Scottish outdoor kitchens need different design from their Mediterranean counterparts. The cabinets need to be properly weatherproofed (we use marine-grade plywood carcasses or stainless steel). The worktops need to handle freeze-thaw cycles (we use granite, porcelain or solid concrete). The structure needs to handle wind exposure. And the location needs careful thought — under a pergola, against a sheltered wall or integrated into a covered outdoor room.

Outdoor kitchens designed for warm, dry climates don't survive Perthshire winters. The standard outdoor cabinetry sold by US and Mediterranean suppliers uses materials that swell, rot and fail when subjected to constant rain and freeze-thaw cycles.
Our outdoor kitchens are engineered for the Scottish climate. Cabinet carcasses are either marine-grade plywood (the same material used in boat construction) or 304 stainless steel. Cabinet doors are typically composite or stainless steel — never solid timber unless under a fully covered structure. Worktops are granite, porcelain or solid concrete — all of which handle freeze-thaw without failure. Built-in equipment is selected from manufacturers' weather-rated outdoor lines.
We also think hard about location. The best outdoor kitchens in Perthshire are either under a pergola or solid roof structure (extending usable season from 4 months to 8+ months), set against a sheltered wall (reducing wind exposure on the cook), and oriented so prevailing wind doesn't blow smoke and heat across the seating area.
The heart of any outdoor kitchen is the cooking equipment. Built-in gas BBQs from Napoleon, Weber and Beefeater are the most popular choice — reliable, easy to use, available in widths from 600mm to 1500mm. Built-in charcoal grills from brands like Big Green Egg and Kamado Joe deliver superior flavour but require more skill to use.
Pizza ovens have become hugely popular. Wood-fired ovens from Gozney and Alfa deliver authentic flavour and serious heat (450°C+). Gas pizza ovens are easier to use and faster to heat. Pellet ovens like the Ooni Karu split the difference. We integrate any of these into outdoor kitchen runs.
Beyond cooking, the most-requested equipment is a built-in beer fridge, an outdoor sink, a side burner for sauce/coffee work, and (for client requesting full hosting setups) ice makers, wine coolers, beer pumps and dishwashers. We can install any combination — the only practical constraint is the services we can run to the location.
Outdoor kitchen costs vary enormously depending on size, equipment and finishes. As a guide: a basic outdoor kitchen (built-in BBQ, side worktops, two storage cabinets, granite worktop) costs £6,000–£10,000; a mid-range outdoor kitchen (BBQ, side burner, pizza oven, sink, fridge, full granite worktop, lighting) costs £12,000–£22,000; a premium outdoor kitchen with full bar setup (multiple cooking appliances, ice maker, beer pumps, dishwasher, full canopy, integrated seating and lighting) costs £25,000–£60,000+.
Add structural elements: a pergola or covered structure adds £4,000–£15,000 depending on size and material; outdoor flooring (decking, paving, porcelain) adds £3,000–£10,000+; integrated landscaping adds £4,000–£20,000+.
